Do the Prevention™ HLD8 test strips have an expiry date? Why?

Prevention™ HLD8 test strips are designed for use during the 21-day reuse period, giving you confidence that the reuse solution achieves high-level disinfection. The test strip container has 60 strips in the bottle- the shelf life is 1 year from the date of manufacture. Once the bottle is open, the test strips will expire in 6 months, given that the date does not extend past the date of expiry as listed on the bottle.

Why do test strips expire? The swatches on the end of the test strips contain chemicals that help with reading the solution when you dip them in. The chemicals can degrade naturally over time, which is the reason for the expiry date. It is best to use the test strips only when it is within its recommended shelf life, as this is the way to ensure that you are reading the dilution accurately.
