The reason for test strips is to ensure that the product that has been used remains effective during the reuse stage as some factors may occur that would affect that efficacy of the product such as improper drying before putting tools into the solution (i.e. the solution becomes watered down) or improper cleaning step before placing the tools in the solution (i.e. particles could contaminate.)
Prevention™ HLD8 is a high-level disinfectant designed for tool and implement disinfection between clients. Prevention™ HLD8 is a ready-to-use solution, meaning that there is no dilution required, and it can be reused for up to 21 days.
During the 21-day reuse period, you can reuse the solution to disinfect tools, however, please keep in mind that there should be no visible dirt or particles in the tray- this would indicate that the solution should be replaced.
You should be using test strips at the beginning of each day to confirm that there has been no loss of efficacy over time during the reuse period. When using the test strips, if they do not demonstrate a pass, this is an indicator that the solution should be replaced right away. We have created a protocol sheet to help with properly using the test strips:
Please note: The solution in the tray should never be topped up to try to achieve a correct reading on the test strip. If the test strips do not pass the solution, the solution should be disposed of, the tray should be thoroughly cleaned and rinse, and then fresh solution should be poured out from the original bottle.
